May 5, 2018: The Weight of the Eternal

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (NIV)
16  Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17  For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18  So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

A great preacher of yesteryear was quoted as saying,”The one who turns one soul from hell to heaven accomplishes far more than one who turns about an entire earthly kingdom from wickedness to righteousness.”

To work hard to fix this world’s ills is to be commended but when this life is over if all you have done is made this world a better place but have not affected anyone’s eternal soul you would have sold your life for temporary gains not eternal ones. That which motivates the child of God is not temporal blessings or temporal fixes but eternal blessings and eternal fixes.

Are you growing weary of doing good in seeking to affect men’s souls?  Do not lose heart, your labor for the Lord will not be in vain.  You will reap if you faint not.  Do you find your spirit growing weary as you walk through this world?  Take a moment and look up and seek the face of your father in heaven.  See his face as he watches over his children to do them good all their days.  Often our eyes are clouded from seeing the good that our God is doing but rest assured He is working for your good not just for this life but for eternity.

As you pray for the lost and seek to make much of Christ as you go about the day, you are working for the glory of your father and you will be rewarded, but your reward will not be in terms of things that pass away but in things that last forever.

Keep your eyes on eternity as you seek to affect the souls of men that they might see Christ as their eternal reward as well.
