May 22, 2017: A Clear Word from God

2 Chronicles 20:12 (NIV)

12 O our God, will you not judge them?  For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us.  We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you.”

The Williams had retreated to their prayer room on the second floor of their home.  Meanwhile, many other believers had done the same thing at the same time, unaware of the chorus of intercession that was being sent up in this University town.

“I just cannot believe she could treat us so poorly, Honey.  I really thought we were becoming friends and then she is the one who started these rumors that may get you and I fired from this University.

How are we going to ever recover from this?  I just do not see any way this can have something good come out of it.”  The words just tumbled out of Ruth when she met her husband in their prayer room.  For the next several minutes, she just poured out her heart to her husband, and to God.

Dr. Williams gently put his arm around his wife and drew her close.  “Father, we do not know what to do at this moment but our eyes are upon you.  Please show us in your word how we should obey you so that others may see how great your son is.

Ruth and her husband spent the next hour or so waiting before the Lord.  Sometimes they would open to a passage of Scripture and pray according to what that passage revealed.  Other times they would sit quietly, or sing some hymn they both knew and just enjoy being before the Lord together.

Ruth was led to a certain passage and when her eyes fell on the passage, she knew what she had to do.  She looked at her husband and said, “Honey, I know now what I need to do.  I just need you to stay here and pray for me as I obey what God showed me in his word just now.”

Dr. Williams offered up a brief prayer for his wife to have wisdom and courage to obey what God had shown her in His Word.

With that prayer, Ruth Williams left on an assignment that was going to alter the course of many lives over the next few weeks.
