Lamentations 5:21 (NIV)
21 Restore us to yourself, O LORD, that we may return; renew our days as of old
When you read the fifth chapter of Lamentations you find yourself reeling from the sheer force of the words Jeremiah pens. The state of Judah was hopeless. They had been ravaged by their enemies and they were reduced to utter poverty. Though certain destruction was predicted for the nation of Judah the nation cared not for the warning. Their love for God had been lost through the pursuit of other pleasures and running after other gods.
The true condition of their heart was they just did not want to think of God any longer, they chose this path and they were being judged fore exactly that. What is one to do when you find your heart cares not for the things of the Lord but runs after every other love in this world?
Jeremiah provides us with the answerers to this dilemma. God must turn your heart once again. Your only hope is if God desires to turn you back to himself. If God does not desire to turn your heart back to him you have no hope. This is where are greatest hope enters. Just what is God’s heart towards his people? Does he desire judgment? Is he fed up completely with his own children that he would turn them away at their greatest hour of need?
Hear the Word of the lord and find hope in your God once more o Child of God.
Isaiah 30:15-18 (NIV)
15 This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.
16 You said, ‘No, we will flee on horses.’ Therefore you will flee! You said, ‘We will ride off on swift horses.’ Therefore your pursuers will be swift!
17 A thousand will flee at the threat of one; at the threat of five you will all flee away, till you are left like a flagstaff on a mountaintop, like a banner on a hill.”
18 Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!
Ezekiel 18:23 (NIV)
23 Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign LORD. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?
Ezekiel 18:30-32 (NIV)
30 “Therefore, O house of Israel, I will judge you, each one according to his ways, declares the Sovereign LORD. Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall.
31 Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit. Why will you die, O house of Israel?
32 For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign LORD. Repent and live!
John 3:16-17 (NIV)
16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
It is the Father’s heart to turn the hearts of his children back to him once more. SO be of good cheer your Father is calling you back to himself once more. No matter what you have done, no matter how far you have roamed His arms are open at this very moment to receive you back into the fold once again. GO ahead and turn to Him he is calling you home right now.
O what a gracious Father we have that will receive us whenever we return from wherever we have been.
