Ephesians 1:13 (NIV)
13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit
Mark 10:49-50 (NIV)
49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.”
50 Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.
“Hey, the Master is calling you!” Those words must have have been too good to be true. What would the Creator of the Universe want with me? I am blind and lame and cannot walk. My life is ruined by the fall and my own rebellion. Everything I touch is ruined and polluted by my touch. I am one who is unclean through and through. There is no way this call is real.
“Call him!” The disciples go to the blind man and give him the invitation of the master. “Cheer up!. On your feet. He’s calling you!”
There is something in this invitation that empowers a blind man to throw aside his cloak and run to Jesus. I wonder what it must have looked like for a blind man to run to Jesus. Did he fall down several times on his way? Surely he must have fallen several times on his way to Jesus but he got to Jesus nevertheless. There were lots of people there that day when the blind man ran to Jesus. But note something else, Jesus did not call everyone to come to him in the crowd that day. he only chose the blind man, the one no one else wanted on their team because he was not useful to them, he was only a hindrance.
Here my friends is the mystery of God’s grace. He diberately chooses those the world will have no use for, for it will be through them that his glory is most visible. Others who trust in their own ability will never be able to disdplay the full glory of God because many will say it was because of their own effort they were able to do this miracle or that miracle. It will never be the case with those whom God has chosen because he chooses only the ones that never qualify for anything else so that he will get the glory he deserves.
So dear blind and lame one cheer up on your feet he is calling oyu. Now run to him and care not how many times you fall just get to Jesus and you will find everything you have ever needed.
