Luke 24:21 (NIV)
21 but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place.
The evidence was all in, he was gone. He was not coming back. They were now left alone. All their hopes they had pinned on him were dashed on the rocks of reality, no one ever comes back from the dead. It would be a long walk home but they had nowhere else to go so they turned toward Emmaus and walked with their heads down and hopes dashed. There was no other place to turn now, the only one who had ever given them even the slightest bit of hope was now dead and buried and what is more, there was a Roman guard stationed at the tomb to add to their despair. They were now seen as foolish unlearned and ignorant to have believed in such a wild idea that God could actually become man and die and then rise again from the dead. The guards posted at the tomb only added to their embarrassment.
I wonder how many of us are like these disciples on the road ot Emmaus? You have followed Him for a while but now when he does not do what he promised on your timetable you find your hopes abandoned and your dreams dashed.
When will God show up in your life again? Was it all for nothing that you left everything and followed him? I would like to answer these questions but there are times when answers are not what we need so I will leave you to consider why it was you followed Him in the first place some time ago. If you would like to have the answers to these and many more questions join us tomorrow in the SIU Student Center Ballroom D as we join with one other area church and two different campus ministries to see just how it is that God will reveal himself to us when we most need him.
Hope to see you tomorrow for a great time of worship and hearing from the one who knows how ot reveal himself to us when we most need him.
See you at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow
