Leviticus 1:4 (NIV)
4 He is to lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted on his behalf to make atonement for him.
What does it mean to lay your hand upon the burnt offering? The word used here is to lean hard upon. To lean in such a way as to find your support coming from the animal. To lean upon is to fully rest upon.
When we come to place our sins on Christ at conversion like they did when they placed their hands on the sacrificial animal being offered in their place in the Old Testament we are to place all of our weight on the head of the sacrificial substitute, that being Christ. We are to so lean upon him that we cannot stand if he does not support us. We are to fully lean all of our lives upon him as our sin bearer, not taking any stand on our own, but only standing as the Lamb supports us with his sacrifice.
Are you standing on any other ground today? Shift your stance if this is the case and lean fully upon Christ and his offering of himself on our behalf on the cross and you will find the strength to stand in the midst of life’s worst storms.
O people of God stand only upon Christ and his death on the Cross on your behalf and you will find life eternal.
Leaning Hard Upon Christ as my Sacrifice,
