May 25, 2018: Behold the power of the Cross

Colossians 2:13-15 (NIV)
13  When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14  having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. 15  And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

The dead are raised, sins are forgiven, judgments against us are dismissed, everything that opposed us in our being made right with God was destroyed, all of satan’s minions and demons set against us were rendered powerless.

This my friends is something no power on earth could ever accomplish.  Everything that stood against you and your relationship with God has now been destroyed and it no longer has any power over you.  The only thing that prevents you from experiencing the deep abiding love of God is your own ability to believe it to be true.

For the past twelve days, I have had the sheer joy of carrying a cross through the streets of Chicago.  At first, it was rather cumbersome and unwieldy but as I continued to carry it, it has become a friend.  As we carry this cross through the streets of Chicago we are having many people stop us and comment on the cross.  Heads turn as we walk by some look approving others not so much.

To identify with Christ as we carry the cross is one of the most powerful and freeing experiences I have ever had.  The cross has changed me and it can change you if you embrace it and decide to carry it.  It is your only hope.

Decide today to no longer live for yourself but for the one who died and rose again from the dead for you.  The power of the cross is waiting for you to pick it up.
