December 9, 2018: There will be deliverance!
Joel 2:32 (NIV)
32 And everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the LORD has said, among the survivors whom the LORD calls.
Who is among the “Elect?” I hear this question often in my conversations with those both in and out of the church. The answer is found in this passage.
I was talking with a young man the other day who asked, “How can I know if I am one of the elect?” This is one of the most important questions anyone can ask. This question contains the answer that anyone would want to know.
There are some who preach that only the elect can be saved and all the others have no hope. Some people God has destined for hell, some he has destined for heaven and there is nothing anyone can do about it.
That sounds so clear and perfect, no confusion here right? That does not answer the question, “How shall I know if I am among the elect?”
Let us consider this passage for a brief moment. I think we will see the clear answer from Scripture.
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved!” So who is among the elect in this passage? Only those who are elect? Can anyone else get in? Is the door permanently closed to all others? Take a good look at the passage. Who is among those who are saved? Those who call on the name of the Lord!
Question, “Who are you trusting for your salvation? If you answer, “I have no other hope but Christ, and I am trusting in Him alone,” then I have great news for you. You are among the elect.
If you have seen that you have no other hope but Christ and you find yourself deeply aware of your sin and see there is no hope in any other person and you are crying out to Jesus to be your Savior from certain judgment then you are His.
Now take a quick look at what follows this promise. In Mt Zion, the place where God will dwell in his Son in the last days. In Jerusalem, the city of Our Great King Jesus. There will be deliverance. It will not be known as a place of death or judgment but of deliverance and hope.
If you hear the Spirit of God calling, you to come aside and look to him for your deliverance then on your feet be of good cheer He is calling you go now and trust him completely with everything.
