Isaiah 9:7 (NIV)
7 Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.
You ask how this can be. How can one so ruined by sin now come to experience all the pleasures of knowing God? The answer is found in one small sentence at the end of the verse in front of us.
“The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this!” This rescue, this grand restoration, is not something we could accomplish we are far to fallen. Nevertheless, God who is rich in love wherein he loved us has accomplished what we never could. He made us alive and set us in the heavenlies in his Son, Jesus Christ, so that in the ages to come he might show us the exceeding riches of his grace and kindness toward us.
Your Creator God loved you before you knew him. He made a way to rescue you even when you did not want to be rescued. God himself condescended and came to us and gave his life as a ransom so we would never feel the everlasting sting of judgment. Because of Him, you now have everlasting life in Christ. One day soon you too will hear the words, “Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who are distressed!”
Take a moment, an hour, a day, or maybe the rest of your life to express to God how grateful you are for such a salvation as this.
