January 1, 2019: More of The Beautiful Ugliness

Isaiah 53:3 (NIV)
3  He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

He was not among the most likely to succeed in his graduating class in Nazareth. He did not cause girls to swoon at his appearance. He was not among the most influential in his town or region. For the first thirty years of his life he was hardly known or recognized by anyone, even in his own town.

His public ministry only lasted between eighteen to thirty-six months, then he was beaten and crucified. He was hardly a blip on the screen of history. In spite of this, this one man caused history to be split in two.  Now two thousand years later people still talk about what this one man did and how his one life forever altered the world as we know it.

Stop trying to change the world and start getting to know the one who altered it and is still altering it. What might happen if we all just focused our attention on Jesus and followed him this next year.  Let’s not try to do anything this next year let’s just follow our Lord and watch him as he seeks to change lives through our yielded life.
