January 2, 2019: The Beautiful Ugly One

Isaiah 53:4-5 (NIV)
4  Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted.
5  But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.

Filled with grief and infirmities? Overwhelmed by your own transgressions.  Feeling the weight of your iniquities.  Do you see how wounded and scarred you are by your own rebellion?  There is good news today. There is one who has already taken away all your sorrows, who has carried away all your infirmities.  He has also done away with the record of your transgressions and sins.  He has made it so one day very soon you will no longer be weighed down by all of these.

He was stricken, smitten and afflicted.  He was crushed and beaten, bruised and bloodied, wounded and scarred so that we might be set free forever.

Time to stop and gaze into the face of the beautiful ugly one once more and be transformed by just the sight of him who died in your place.

See you tomorrow
