Jeremiah 6:16-17 (NIV)
16 This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’
17 I appointed watchmen over you and said, ‘Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’ But you said, ‘We will not listen.’
God appears to all of us at one time or another in our lives and speaks clearly telling us how to return to Him and find the true joy that never grows old. God promises rest if we turn back to him and His word but we answer, “We will not!” God says to listen to the sound of the trumpet warning them of sudden destruction but we respond, “We will not!”
We see the result of not responding to God’s directions so he could give us peace. We find our nation embroiled in yet another wave of wickedness and rebellion, seeking to establish man as the ultimate ruler of his life. As a result we are going to pay a very high price.
Let us listen to the prophet Jeremiah warning us to return to the ways of the Lord so that we may find true and lasting peace.
