April 29, 2020: Reason to Rejoice: God Does Everything for His own Glory

Job 39:16-18 (NIV)

16 She treats her young harshly, as if they were not hers; she cares not that her labor was in vain, 17 for God did not endow her with wisdom or give her a share of good sense. 18 Yet when she spreads her feathers to run, she laughs at horse and rider.

Have you ever stopped to consider why God does what He does?

Job had a run in with God one day and our text for today is part of that run in. Job had a complaint and he wanted God to hear him.

God replied to Job, “Ok, Job stand up like a man and let’s see if you can answer any of the questions I have been waiting to ask you.

If you can answer these questions then I will be glad to answer yours.

I love the list of questions that God gives to Job. My favorite of all is this one. Basically, “who made the Ostrich dumb?”

If you were looking at an ostrich, you may have concluded that God did not know what he was doing. The Ostrich looks extremely awkward and just looking at an Ostrich you would have to say it sure looks like someone made a mistake!”

However, if you want to win a race you had better bet on the Ostrich and not the horse. What looks like some mistake is one of the fastest animals on the earth. Moreover, whatever you do do not get behind one. Their legs can kick strong enough to kill a lion or any predator that happens to stand behind it.

God created the Ostrich for his own pleasure. He created you for the same reason. God is not so much interested in how smart you are or how good looking you are he is interested in your willingness to serve Him. (Isaiah 66:1-2)

The Ostrich gets God’s attention when it runs. It may look weird and it may even be rather dumb nut if a dumb weird looking Ostrich can bring Glory to God then there is hope for all of us.

Meditate on this question today: What special gift did God give you that you can use to bring Him glory?
