What is the Gospel?
What Is The Gospel?
Romans 1:16 says, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes: to the Jew first and also to the Greek.”
The Bible describes the gospel as the “power of God.” Power, being the force or ability used to act or influence other things and people. God, being the One who has created all things, and is highly more valuable than any thing that is found in existence. These are the terms used to describe the gospel. Notice that the Apostle Paul could have used any other strong imagery to describe God’s power (hurricane, tornado, tsunami, explosion, etc.) but instead he chose to use the word “gospel.”
The word “gospel” is comprised of two old English words which mean “good news.” In fact, the gospel is not only good news, but it is great and joyous news! This is the gospel:
That even though mankind has sinned and rebelled against God, the Holy and Perfect creator of all things, still desires a relationship with them. The great and joyous news of the gospel is that, “while we were still sinners, Christ died for the ungodly” (Romans 5:8).
Are you experiencing hurt and disunity? Do you feel the pains of not fully living life to the fullest? Do you sense that there is more to life than what you see and experience around you? Are you seeking to find your joy and pleasure for life in sex, drugs, cursing, gossip, hurting other people, etc.? The great news of the gospel is that Christ died, rose from the dead, and ascended to heaven in order to set you free from these sins that hold you down like chains, and to enable you to enjoy Him forever. No longer do you have to feel burdened. No longer do you have to feel useless. No longer do you have to satisfy the destructive desires and cravings in your life. You can find JOY and REST in knowing that Christ has eliminated your sins and nailed them to the cross and took the punishment that you and I have deserved since the moment we were born into a sinful world! (Colossians 2:13-15)
What a great and merciful God, that He would do all those things to show His glory and directly benefit you! We invite you to join us in this walk with God. To enjoy the life that He gives you now, so that you will be prepared to meet Him and spend eternity with Him!
We must warn you, however, the opposite of accepting this “gospel” results in what the Bible describes as an eternal death. This is a place where your soul dwells for all eternity with the full wrath of God being placed upon you and it is utterly painful… (Revelation 21:8, Psalm 9:17, 2 Thessalonians 1:9 )
The goodness of the gospel is that the above described condition does not have to be your future. Repent and turn from your sin, and pray to Christ telling Him that you trust Him to provide that acceptance and salvation. Then join the rest of His people in working together to make this great and joyous news known to others! We invite you to join us in this mission of making Christ and His gospel known among all nations.
